Common Coot with a kill
Common on lakes, ponds and rivers of the old world, the Common Coot has expanded its range, the black head with a conspicuous white shield. Being omnivorous but mainly vegetarian, I have seen Coots mostly feeding on seeds and green parts of aquatic and some terrestrial plant species, algae, grasses and cereals. Wasn't sure until I witnessed and framed today, a Coot taking down a fish in the lake.
