Filial Cannibalism
When I discovered Neobrettus, the very rare jumping spider first time in India with a research paper, Indian media described this as “Lucas the spider is real” in nature. Filial cannibalism is a specific type of cannibalism in which adult eat their own offspring that includes still incubating eggs. In spider, this is very rare. There may be several reasons like: maintaining sex ratio in their community, identifying immature eggs and devour it as diet supplement as well as keeping egg sac clean.
